Recreational fishing and boating sectors applaud Coalition Policy

RECREATIONAL FISHING
The Boating and Fishing Council of Australia (BFCA) today welcomed the announcement by the Coalition to
completely re-visit what is unanimously viewed as a structurally flawed and poorly handled policy under the
Ministerial leadership of Labor, namely the Marine Bio-Regional Planning Process..
“The battle lines are now drawn and very clear - Labor’s preference deal with the Greens is a win for fringe
environmental groups and a win for more marine LOCKOUTS. It’s now up to Labor to come clean and tell the 5 million recreational fishers many of whom live in marginal
coastal seats and 80% of boat owners who fish, what their policy is."

BFCA issue warning about voting Green
Marine Business .com
21 July 2010
“It is increasingly clear that recreational fishers and boaters in Australia must be very careful who they vote for at any federal or state election." |
RECREATIONAL FISHING
THE Boating and Fishing Council of Australia has warned a vote for any political party preferencing the Greens is a vote for further lockouts.
“The current situation is dire and arguably the worst the recreational fishing and boating sector has faced in recent memory," said BFCA national spokesperson Dean Logan.
The Boating and Fishing Council of Australia is a national representative alliance for the marine, recreational fishing, trade and tackle, outboard and boating sectors and was established to address a continual disregard toward boating and its recreational fishing interests.

Another Blow for Recreational Anglers -
23 APRIL 2010

REC-FISH Funding Stopped
The government decided to take away funding from Rec Fish, just a week after they launched their National Strategy for Recreational Fishing, and their push for more Marine Parks with potential angler lock outs. Clever eh? With no organised voice to stand in opposition they can do what they want without stopping to ask.
What did Rec-Fish do? Among other things, Rec-Fish represented the face of 3.5 million recreational anglers, giving us a voice in government. It was there to provide expert and sound advise to government agencies, advising on policies that would effect us.

SUPPORTING AUSTRALIA'S RECREATIONAL FISHING INDUSTRY -
31 MARCH 2010
“We want to build on existing work by the states and territories and community-based recreational fishing organisations and encourage a nationally consistent approach.”
Mr Burke said he had asked the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation (FRDC) to work with the advisory committee to coordinate the project and seek co-investment from state and territory governments around and industry organisations.
He has also written to the states and territories to begin consultation and asked for their input on the suggested national framework.
Recreational fishers are urged to contact their local recreational fishing associations and put forward their views on the draft discussion paper,
by 30 April 2010.
The discussion paper is available at www.daff.gov.au/fisheries/recreational/rfids
FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DODGE EMAILS - 29 MARCH 2010
Garret' Office dodge emails on technicality.
We have just got off the phone after talking with a representative from Peter Garret's office.
Our reason for calling was to establish why they have not responded to our emails. According to Garret's office they did not respond because they deemed our emails to be a "campaign", and their policy is not to respond to campaigns.
This doesn't mean that they didn't read it or take note of how many people emailed them, they just choose not to respond. >> read more
GOVERNMENT FAIL TO RESPOND - MARCH 2010
According to the government code of practice - published on their website - they promise to respond to enquires in 20 days, and failing that, to at least email a response that the initial enquiry has been received. Well, they haven't.
I can understand letting one email slip through to the keeper, but over 610 emails?
Unfortunately we have to take time out of what we should be doing to chase this up.
Peter Morse explains what can happen if we don't.
Please take the time to read these emails, and listen to what Peter Morse and Steve Starling have to say on this issue. It really is in your best interest.
On a happier note, don't forget to take a few photos of your catch while
it is still fresh, and send them in to us, we'd love
to see them added to the
new photo gallery.
