Recreational Fishing Under
Threat
The future of Recreational Fishing is being decided NOW!
Federal Government dodge emails - 29 March 2010
We have just got off the phone after talking with a representative from Peter Garret's
office.
Our reason for calling was to establish why they have not responded to our emails. According to Garret's office they did not respond because they deemed our emails to be a "campaign", and their policy is not to respond to campaigns.
However they have promised to respond to us as an individual entity, and we will post their response online. We expect an answer by Wednesday, and failing that we will be calling them on the phone once again. John Haenke, The Fishing DVD.

Proposed Zones
Click on the map to be taken to the government website to see a list of maps with proposed zones.
They are being used to narrow down the areas within which new Commonwealth Marine Reserves will be established.
According to the goverment website:
Seven Areas for Further Assessment (AFA) have been identified in the East Marine Region. The region stretches from the tip of Cape York to the far coast of New South Wales, excluding the Great Barrier Reef and Torres Strait. These are areas to be examined more closely to determine the best placement of marine reserves to protect our marine environment in a way that minimises impacts on industry. The AFAs are NOT proposed Commonwealth Marine Reserves or green zones.
What??
Parts of them, based on previous planning, will almost certainly be green zones.

ECOFishers Federal Petition
The Petition asks the Federal Government to examine the process under which this planning is taking place, and highlights the lack of consultation with one of the Primary Users of the Fishery - Recreational Anglers.
You can also download the pdf file below, so that you can get friends and workmates to sign, and you can take it to your local tackle Store for the notice board.

Get Involved
How can I get involved in the Marine Bioregional Planning Process? The Australian Government welcomes any contribution that will assist in developing Marine Bioregional Plans (as long as it isn't a campaign)
